Sgt. Bilko: An army comedy with Steve Martin, Dan Akroyd and Phil Hartman. Sgt Bilko does basically everything but army duties with his platoon of soldiers. Life in Sgt. Bilko’s army is quite nice. That is until Major Thorn shows up and tries to spoil the fun.
Abandoned: There is a baby selling operation that is thriving. A journalist (O’Keefe) sets out to help Gale Storm learn what has happened to her missing sister. Shot on location in Los Angeles. Stars include Dennis O’Keefe, Gale Storm, Jeff Chandler, and Raymond Burr. Joe Newman is the director. (1949 Drama)
Cry for Me Billy: A drifter falls in love with an Indian gal, with catastrophic repercussions, in this vicious Western. Its title and supposed year of release keeps changing, however the film doesn’t get some any better. Cast includes Harry Dean Stanton, and Don Wilbanks. (93 minutes,’72)
Believe in Me: Donovan moves to a tiny Oklahoma town in’64 to take a teaching job, although when he arrives he learns he’s been assigned to coach the girls basketball team. What’s more, the girls have no self respect and little help from the school. Genuine heartland tale ascends above its recognizable underdog recipe. Donovan and Mathis as his supportive spouse are first rate. Cast includes Jeffrey Donovan, Samantha Mathis, Bruce Dem, Bob Gunton, Heather Matarazzo, Alicia Lagano, and Chris Ellis. (108 minutes, 2007)
The Hurricane: The true story of Rubin ‘Hurricane’ Carter, a middleweight title contender, who had his dreams of a boxing title abruptly ended when he was falsely arrested and convicted of a triple homicide. He eventually gives up all hope when imprisoned until a young Blackman, and his adopted Canadian parents take up his lost cause. They are up against staunch racism at every turn, but eventually Hurricane is set free.
The illustrated Man: Youthful drifter Drivas meets tattooed man Steiger, who is looking for the strange lady (Bloom), who “illustrated” his whole body. The drifter sees futuristic stories in three of the illustrations, most of which include megastar Steiger and, or Bloom and Drivas. The film is a disheartening, dull-paced adaptation of short stories from Ray Bradbury. Cast includes Rod Steiger, Claire Bloom, Robert Drivas, Don Dubbins, Jason Evers, Ton Weldon, and Christie Matchett. (103 minutes,’69)
Cujo: Sincerely terrifying adaptation of Stephen King thriller about a female and her child terrorized by a rabid St. Bernard. The plot develops gradually and is undoubtedly too horrifying (although not gory) for kids. Cast includes Dee Wallace, Daniel Hugh-Kelly, Christopher Rock, and Factories Watson. (91 minutes,’83)
