Obama Provides A Solution To Increasing College Expenses For Moms

Everyone knows going to college is expensive. Typically when we think of the costs involved, we think about the tuition. There are many other expenses that need to be considered that you may not have thought of and may add up to more than your total tuition!

Other Expenses

1. The tuition for a 4 year degree can cost anywhere between $6,000 and $25,000. Private Colleges do cost more than public colleges of course.

2. Where will you live? You may not be earning much while you are in college, as most of your time will be dedicated to studying. So you must consider where you will be living and how much it will cost to live there. Consider rent amounts, food, utilities, travel to and from classes. It could easily be $1,000 or more a month.

3. Supplies and Equipment – Books, stationary, Software, calculators etc. typically will cost you about $2,000 a year on average.

The first step is to create a budget. Figure out what your expenses add up to and adjust your money accordingly. Remember to leave room for savings and entertainment money!

Remember as expensive as it appears, college is an investment into your future! Statistics prove that having a degree significantly increases your potential salary! You will definitely make more than someone who only has a high school diploma. Let’s face it, in today’s world no degree means no job!

You do have options available to help pay for college. Most already know about student loans. Yes, they can pay for your schooling and expenses, but you do have to pay them back with interest in most cases. This means once your education is complete, you actually begin your new career with a huge debt that will take years and years to pay off.

The better option these days is Scholarships. That is free money, you never have to repay and you can apply/register for as many as you want! There are literally hundreds of scholarships to be found online. Some are more of a raffle, in that you register and they pick a winner. Some are Qualification based, meaning you have to read what they require. In most cases for this type of scholarship you will have the opportunity to set yourself apart from everyone else applying. You can tell them why you deserve the money, what you will do with the education, and what makes you the best possible choice! Even if you get turned down, keep trying! There are plenty of others to apply for!
