Hemorrhoid Surgery
Although natural cures for hemorrhoids are the desired way to go, in some cases, that’s not going to be possible. Of course, one hemorrhoids natural treatment is to simply get more fiber in your diet. Moderate exercise, too, will help to relieve constipation and therefore hemorrhoids. In some cases, though, the only thing that will actually cure hemorrhoids is surgical intervention.
Before you undergo hemorrhoid surgery, you must thoroughly discuss your options with your physician. This way, you can go under the knife, so to speak, knowing full well the benefits and risks arising from such a surgical procedure. To help you make a good decision in this regard, you can ask your doctor the following questions:
-Is there one hemorrhoid surgery better than the other? Why?
-What options are available?
-Are there benefits and risks with each procedure postoperatively?
-Will a procedure be covered by insurance? How much does it cost? -How much has the surgeon in question done this particular type of procedure? Is he or she an expert at it, and what is his or her success rate?
Because you are paying both financially and physically for this surgical intervention, with costs and postoperative pain, make sure you ask all questions you want to, no matter whether or not you think it’s embarrassing or “inconvenient” for either you or the doctor.
If you decide on hemorrhoid surgery, your doctor will discuss how to cure your hemorrhoids with surgery when you are having presurgery consultations. Especially if the hemorrhoid is external, less invasive procedures may be desirable. If a hemorrhoid is internal, though, a more invasive hemorrhoid surgery may be necessary.
Rubber band ligation has been a proven technique for second-degree internal piles. Basically, what is done is that the base of the hemorrhoid is tied off and its blood supply cut off. It falls off through normal bowel movements within 2 to 7 days. It has a success rate of 60 to 80%, which makes it one of the most successful procedures to cure hemorrhoids.
Second, sclerotherapy involves injecting medicine into the hemorrhoid, which will then shrink it. Amongst the surgical hemorrhoid cures, this often has more serious complications like visual disturbances and thrombophlebitis, to name a few.
Third, stapled hemorrhoidopexy involves the insertion of a hollow tube inside the anal canal. Its purpose is to push the hemorrhoidal cushions into their normal places while cutting off the inflamed hemorrhoid via a stapling method. This is one of the more radical hemorrhoid cures and, hence, only applicable to severe cases.
Doppler ligation has the surgeon tying off the artery that gives the blood supply to the hemorrhoid, so that it shrinks. This is among the quickest and easiest of the surgical hemorrhoidal interventions, with bleeding stopping immediately. Patients can usually go home the same day of the surgery and require little postoperative care.
Fifth, hemorrhoidectomy is considered to be the most painful of all surgical hemorrhoid cures. It requires a great degree of post-operative care including prescription-strength painkillers. In fact, don’t expect to be in physical shape for up to a month after surgery. Fortunately, doctors reserve this operation for only the most severe hemorrhoids.
Although surgery for hemorrhoids may not be your first choice, it may become necessary if they are impacting your quality of life negatively. This is especially true if natural cures for hemorrhoids are not taking care of the problem adequately. If this is true, though, and you do need to undergo surgery, make sure you always choose qualified surgeon to do the job right.
